Rocks N Rollin Ultra challenge. 22nd June 2014
The Rocks N Rollin Ultra Challenge is a one day carnival of running attracting every category of runner especially from mid distance to Ultra runner. The 5 races in 1 Day have different start times for each race so that all runners are congregated for the last half marathon distance to the finish line in Moville. This provides an amazing spectacle as runners of all abilities wind their way along part of the Inishowen 100 Scenic route in Irelands most northerly, scenic and toughest Half, Full and Ultra Marathon Challenges. All races finishing in early afternoon in Moville between 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Half Marathon walk Starts 11.30,
Half Marathon Run Starts 12.30
Leaving from Mc Guinness Bar, Culdaff; Walkers / runners make their way towards Bocan, Gleneely then onto the hill climb at “Crock” with a climb of 700ft over 1.5mile. The crest of the climb offers a panoramic view over the Foyle and Causeway coast. Only 7 mile downhill left TO Moville finish line.
Walled City Marathon training run – Starts 12.00
In addition to the Half Marathon, Half marathoners can opt to join the Marathon runners as they pass through Culdaff on a 4 mile loop back to village. Just reg. for Half and show up for 12 noon start.
Marathon Start Starts 10.30
Overlooking Kinnego Bay, mile 1 is a sharp downhill along the cork screw then mile 2 is a sharp uphill, thankfully things settle down after that as you wind along to Culdaff and a 4 mile loop past village and back to Half Marathon distance left.
Ultra Marathon, stage 1 –(0 to 13 mile)
Starting 8.30am in Moville, via Shore path, Lafferty’s lane, Greencastle, Shroove, Drumaweir before commencing a 900ft ascent over a for 2 miles. The entire Causeway coast is now visible before making the next 2m downhill and onto 13m marker near Kinnego and official Marathon start.
The reward; Massively improved self esteem as a result of completing your own personal challenge, be it Half, Full or Ultra. As with all Extreme North events your efforts are well rewarded with memorable Medals, T shirts and a Hospitality Marquee with hot food to help restore some sustenance and add a bit of a social gathering to the event. Extreme North’s promise for 2013 is to further enhance all events and still maintain the family friendly and hospitable atmosphere of the event. Some enhancements include more runner support and refreshment tent with hot food sustenance to help you recover and socialize with like minded adventurers, after all, those post race chats are where we get next years challenges from.
